2001 4k news
Director Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi masterpiece could be coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray later this year.
According to a report from The Digital Bits, Warner Bros. is prepping 2001: A Space Odyssey for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. Though the release has not been officially confirmed yet, The Digital Bits’ retail and studio sources indicate that the disc is being eyed for a March or April street date to coincide with the film’s 50th Anniversary.
2001: A Space Odyssey spans from the dawn of man to its title year. Stone Age Earth: In the presence of a mysterious black obelisk, pre-humans discover the use of tools — and weapons — violently taking first steps toward intelligence. 1999: On Earth’s moon astronauts uncover another mysterious black obelisk. 2001: Between Earth and Jupiter, the spacecraft’s intelligent computer makes a mistake that kills most of the human crew — then continues to kill to hide its error. Beyond Time: The sole survivor of the journey to Jupiter ascends to the next level of humanity.
Technical specs and supplements have not been revealed yet, but an official announcement is expected soon with more details. We’ll update this page when Warner Bros. releases more information.
2001: A Space Odyssey was first released in 1968 and comes from writer/director Stanley Kubrick and co-writer Arthur C. Clarke. The movie stars Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, and Douglas Rain as the voice of the infamous HAL 9000 computer. A standard Blu-ray version of the film is currently available as a stand-alone disc or as part of the Stanley Kubrick Masterpiece Collection.
According to Dread Central, Keir’s film BLIND DATE is finally being released on Bluray. According to this source the disc will be loaded with extras. Here’s hoping another audio commentary from Keir. More below the cut.
Slithis, Night Angel, and Blind Date on Their Way to Blu-ray
That brings us to Nico Mastorakis’ 1984 hi-tech giallo Blind Date, coming soon to Blu courtesy of Scorpion Releasing. If you have never seen it, this one is most definitely out there:
A man goes blind when remembering his lost girlfriend, but the doctors can’t find anything wrong with his eyes. They fit him with an experimental device that allows him to see with the aid of a computer interface and brain electrodes. Meanwhile, a taxi driver is taking young women up to their apartments, giving them gas, and performing a little fatal amateur surgery on them. Their paths inevitably converge, and the blind man must try to stop the psychopath.
The device that allows him to see in what I’ve always referred to as “Tron-Vision” looks like a slightly modified Sony Walkman. Truly wacko in the best way possible.
Joseph Bottoms, Kirstie Alley, Lana Clarkson, James Daughton, Keir Dullea, and Marina Sirtis round out the surprisingly impressive cast for this sci-fi slasher, which was written and directed by cult Greek filmmaker Nico Mastorakis. The movie’s biggest claim to fame may very well be that it marks one of Kirstie Alley’s only nude scenes. So, for all your Saavik fans out there, purchasing this one is most definitely the only logical decision.
Scorpion Releasing has unveiled tentative box art for Blind Date with word that they hope to load this disc up with cool extras. Expect a release date announcement shortly.

I have two new recent events of Keir’s to post. Both have to do with the TCM Classic Film Festival. In the first Keir is alone in a discussion panel on the screening of DAVID AND LISA held on April 08, 2017. The other is an event both Keir and Mia attended celebrating the TCM Film Festival. Keir looked very dapper and Mia looked very elegant in black.
