Keir's favourite medium is the stage where he's starred in such projects as the original production of Butterflies Are Free, On Golden Pond, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, P.S. Your Cat Is Dead, Doubles, Dr. Cook's Garden, I Never Sang for My Father, The Shawshank Redemption, Tales from Hollywood, The Cherry Orchard and many other workshop productions.

Watchful eye of our friend Nichole Clay caught this from an article published in the 01 September 1978 edition of the Kentucky New Era. Apparently someone tried to abduct Keir’s step-daughter Sasha Coe from a restaurant Keir had taken his step-daughters to for a dinner out. I cannot imagine the fear that must have come into his heart at this. Let alone the fact the nutbar was wielding a pipe. In a followup I found on the incident, dated 10 December 1978, the man had been judged sane by a Los Angeles court to stand trial on the kidnapping as well as a weapon’s charge.
I found an amazing article on one man’s interpretation of Kubrick’s film 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. I’ll excerpt it below with a link to the press section with the entire article. The peat I thought was very insightful was the part about Bowman as the Starchild being an almost ‘bumbling, stumbling’ entity denoting man at his worst.

This leads to the most significant episode, as a troupe of scientists are bound for Jupiter under the care of their ship’s artificial intelligence, HAL-9000. Even amongst impressive space-faring vessels capable of such long journeys, the most impressive specimen of technology is still Hal, a fully functioning and communicating computer that, while dictated by stringent programming and logical directives, still hints at possible emotion and soul thanks to being given a voice and the capacity to think. As Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) explains in an interview with the BBC, Hal acts and sounds like a real person, but they simply do not know if there is any substance within his make up. The culture of clandestine secrecy has apparently not been shed by this point, as we quickly learn that the science team (most of whom are in suspended animation awaiting arrival at the storm planet) do not know what their ultimate destiny is, what they are supposed to do, why they are even going to Jupiter. An apparently erroneous damage report by Hal and hints at the computer’s unreliability from home base are enough to create doubt within the human occupants, and they plot to essentially overthrow Hal and disconnect him if he continues to show signs of malfunction. Unbeknownst to them, the AI has lip read every word, and is now fully aware that there is a threat to his existence.
I finally have some things from Keir’s film HENRi. According to Keir the film is about an artificial intelligence wanting to be human. Keir also says that HENRi is the better side of the HAL-9000 from Keir’s films 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and 2001: ODYSSEY TWO. Here are some screencaps and a couple of videos. WWC to Host Keir Dullea and Mia Dillon – March 4th
The Westport Woman’s Club is thrilled to have two greats of the stage, film, theater and television as the guest speakers at their Club Day Luncheon at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 4. Keir Dullea and Mia Dillon will talk about their life in the theater. Keir Dullea is best known for his starring role as the astronaut David Bowan in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He has appeared in dozens of movies, plays on and off Broadway and television including Madame X, The Good Shepherd and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Mia Dillon is a Tony nominated actress for Broadway’s Crimes of the Heart and is also a Drama Desk Award nominee for Once a Catholic. She has appeared on several episodes of Law and Order as well as numerous other television shows. They founded the Theater Arts Workshop in Norwalk. Keir and Mia have been married since 1999 and live part time in Weston.
Guests are welcome. The luncheon will be held at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Avenue, Westport. There is a $17 fee, payable at the door, which includes luncheon and the guest talk.
